Whereas some persons in the Bay of Quinte Conference perceive that some of the proposed recommendations of the study document "Bearing Faithful Witness" run counter to Article 7, of the Basis of Union; and

Whereas ambiguity on this question is not helpful; and

Whereas similar concerns have been raised about recommendations in other United Church documents in recent years that, in the eyes of some persons, ran counter to sections of the Basis of Union;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Bay of Quinte Conference petitions the 37th General Council to refer the recommendations of "Bearing Faithful Witness" to the Committee on Theology and Faith to determine if any remits would be necessary prior to the adoption of any of these recommendations by a future General Council and, if the Committee on Theology and Faith determined that one or more such remits would be necessary, that the 38th General council would then be invited to take the steps necessary to authorize such a remit or remits, so that any necessary changes to the Basis of Union would therefore be adopted prior to the adoption of related recommendations in "Bearing Faithful Witness."
